Cal Poly Collegiate FFA Chapter Wins National Award

The Cal Poly chapter of the Collegiate Future Farmers of America (CFFA) has been recognized as the Outstanding Professional Development Program among CFFA programs nationwide.

The group won the award in the National Program of Excellence Competition for Collegiate Agricultural Education and Alpha Tau Alpha organizations held at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., in October.

The chapter's 2000-2001 activities were evaluated for originality, number and variety, and relevance to professional development, community service, fund raising and fellowship.

Competition team members were agricultural science majors Sara Araujo from Santa Maria, Gregg Bridges, Arroyo Grande, Albert Graham, Burney, and Alana Pucci, San Luis Obispo, and agriculture graduate students Kristopher Elliot, Linden, Josiah Mayfield, Visalia, and Roberta McDonald Baywood Park.

The competition included chapters from 10 other colleges and universities across the country, including such schools as Cornell University, UC Davis and the University of Illinois.

The Cal Poly CFFA has won several previous awards, including National Program of Excellence in 1998 and awards for community service, professional development and fellowship in 1998 and 1999.
