CSU Committee Appointed To Search For New Humboldt State
President
The California State University has formed a committee to begin the search
process for a new president at Humboldt State University. Current president
Dr. Alistair W. McCrone announced in August that his retirement will take
effect in summer 2002.
The CSU's Trustees Selection Committee and its advisory committee are
meeting to review the responsibilities of a new university president and
create a position description and timeline for the search process. They
also will discuss business matters related to the process. The two groups
will meet jointly throughout the search process.
The search is expected to take five months, and the new president most
likely will be announced at the Board of Trustees meeting in March. The
new person will assume the presidency in July. McCrone, who is the CSU's
longest-serving president (since 1974), will preside at Humboldt's 2002
commencement ceremonies.
The selection committee is comprised of members of the CSU Board of Trustees:
Debra Farar, chair
Roberta Achtenberg, member
Bob Foster, member
Laurence K. Gould, Jr., ex-officio
CSU Chancellor, Dr. Charles B. Reed, ex-officio
The advisory committee to the Trustees Selection Committee includes:
Dr. Susan Bicknell, Academic Senate chair
Dr. Milton Boyd, professor of biological sciences at Humboldt
Dr. Robert A. Corrigan, president of San Francisco State University
Julie Fulkerson, community-at-large, Arcata business owner
Howard Hunt, D.D.S., member of the University Advisory Board
Dr. Roland Lamberson, professor of mathematics at Humboldt
Elexis Mayer, president of Associated Students at Humboldt
Gwynna Morris, Alumni Association past president and current board member
Dr. Richard Vrem, Humboldt dean for undergraduate studies
Craig West, building services engineer at Humboldt
The initial meeting is open to the public on Friday, October 26, at 8:30
a.m. on the second floor of the Jolly Giant Commons at Humboldt State
University. Ira Krinsky from Korn/Ferry International, an executive search
firm that specializes in senior-level searches, will be assisting the
CSU with the process.
