Michigan State and Oregon State finished second and third.
Team members were agricultural business junior Vicky Deniz of Petaluma, dairy science junior Rod Jorritsma of Hilmar, dairy science freshman Aaron Matheron of Hilmar, and animal science junior Susete Oliveira of Gustine.
The Cal Poly team earned the top spot with a first-place tie in oral reasons and a second in the overall placement of the dairy cattle.
Individually, Olivera was ranked third, Deniz fourth, and Joritsma sixth. Dairy Science Professor Stan Henderson coached the team.
"This is the second competition of this season and the team has placed first in both of them," Henderson said. "The students are working hard and are already preparing for the national competition this fall."
