CSU Campuses Ranked Among Nations's Top Fund-Raisers
Ten of the nation's top 20 fund-raising colleges in the category of
public master's institutions are California State University campuses,
according to a national report by the Council for Aid to Education.
In addition, San Diego State University (the only CSU campus in the
Public Doctoral II category) was number one in the nation in its category,
raising $39.6 million in 1999/00.
CSU public masters institutions ranked in the top 20 in are:
- 2 -- Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, $24.6 million
- 3 -- Fresno State, $23.7 million
- 4 -- CSU Long Beach, $22.2 million
- 6 -- Sonoma State, $16.1 million
- 7 -- San Jose State, $14.1 million
- 9 -- San Francisco State, $14 million
- 11 -- Cal Poly Pomona, $12.6 million
- 12 -- Humboldt State, $11.5 million
- 13 -- CSU Fullerton, $11.2 million
- 19 - Cal State Los Angeles, $9.6 million
Other CSU campuses listed are: 23 -- San Bernardino, $8.3 million;
27 -- Sacramento $7.9 million; 28 -- Northridge, $7.8 million; 43 --
Chico, $6.3 million; 61 -- Monterey Bay, $3.8 million; 64 -- Bakersfield,
$3.5 million; 70 -- San Marcos, $3.3 million; 73 -- Stanislaus, $3 million;
76 -- Dominguez Hills, $2.8 million; and 107 -- Hayward, $1.5 million.
In addition, the CSU system foundation raised $1.7 million, which placed
it at 101 in the rankings.
In the category of public specialized institutions, the California Maritime
Academy, which raised $1.6 million, was ranked 11th in the nation.
All of the figures are based on the 1999/00 academic year. Altogether,
CSU campuses raised a record $251.5 million in gifts from alumni, parents,
individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations, which
is an increase of about 8 percent over the previous year.
In the early 1990s the CSU Trustees encouraged campuses to increase
their efforts in fund-raising and provided support for their efforts.
As a result private donations have nearly tripled over the past seven
years. Altogether, external support has totalled more than $4.6 billion
since 1993.
