For the second year in a row, the Cal State Fullerton Dance Team is No. 1 in Division 1 of the 2001 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, held last month at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
"The girls were absolutely amazing performers," said volunteer adviser Sam Muller-Shen, "and excellent representatives of Cal State Fullerton - something to be very proud of!"
Sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association and the Universal Dance Association, the national competition drew hundreds of teams from throughout the United States. ESPN-TV plans to air the dance championships sometime this year.
Cal State Fullerton's 11-member team is coached by alumni Muller-Shen (B.A. communications '98) and Jennie Moreno (B.S. child development '97). Both Muller-Shen and Moreno were members of the Cal State Fullerton Dance Team during their undergraduate years. The team includes: Aubren Blankenship and Michelle Browning of Anaheim, Amy Costanzo of Brea, Ashley and Aubrey Starns of Cypress, Emily Smith of Fullerton, Vernadette Ramos of Garden Grove, Britten Jacobian of Orange, Cynthia Orozco of Chino Hills, Melissa Foster of Downey and Jenny Boyle of Norco.
The team next performs Feb. 23-25 at the U.S.A. nationals in Las Vegas.
