Jim Bowen, Chair of the California State University, Stanislaus Department of Physical Education and Health and former Warrior baseball head coach, will join two other coaches to conduct clinics in Bratislava, Slovakia, this month.
Bowen, who was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame earlier this year and coached the Warriors for 25 seasons with a 639-585-8 record, will be part of a three-person coaching staff conducting the three-day program. Coaches and players from seven countries will attend the December 15-17 conference.
"It is both an awesome and wonderful opportunity as I will be lecturing and "hands-on" teaching to a broad audience of many languages and skill abilities, ranging from youth to national team players and coaches," Bowen said. "All this from a platform of seemingly tiny Turlock and our proud Warrior Red and Gold."
Bowen coached the 1976 and 1977 CSU baseball teams to national championships. His Warrior teams also won nine regional championships and three Northern California Athletic Conference titles.
He was head coach for a United States Baseball Federation (USBF) team that played in Seoul, Korea in 1980 after serving as an assistant coach for a USBF team that played in Caracas, Venezuela, the previous year.
