The Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce has named California State University, Sacramento President Donald R. Gerth "Sacramentan of the Year."
The award will be made Jan. 26 at the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce's 106th Annual Dinner and Business Awards.
The chamber recognized Gerth for his leadership at CSUS since 1984. Among many achievements during Gerth's tenure, the campus has added 1.5 million square feet in new facilities, a joint doctorate in public history and a new School of the Arts.
Gerth was also instrumental in establishing the Northern California World Trade Center in Sacramento and serves as the chair of the board. He is a member of the United Nations University Council governing board and is past president of the International Association of University Presidents.
"Don Gerth has displayed a commitment to the progress of the Sacramento Region through his stewardship at CSUS," said Rusty Hammer, chief executive officer and president of the Sacramento Metro Chamber. "His involvement in countless business, educational, professional and charitable endeavors makes him a most worthy recipient of this honor."
The Chamber has also chosen AgraQuest founder Pamela G. Marrone as Businesswoman of the Year and Sacramento River Cats president Arthur L. Savage as Businessman of the Year.
The Annual Diner and Business Awards will be held 6-9:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom, 1209 L St., Sacramento. Reservations are available by contacting the Sacramento Metro Chamber at 552-6808 ext.103.
