Campus: CSU, Long Beach -- November 10, 2000

Application Deadline for Incoming Freshman to Apply to California State University, Long Beach Set for Nov. 30

The Beach is still hot. So, for the second consecutive year, graduating high school seniors interested in attending California State University, Long Beach next fall must submit their application materials to the campus during the initial filing period, which ends Nov. 30.

There has been one change, however. Cal State Long Beach will no longer accept applications from lower-division transfer students. The university will only accept upper-division transfer students at the junior class level for the Fall 2001 semester. That deadline has not yet been set.

"Our enrollment continues to grow at a fast rate," said CSULB President Robert C. Maxson, whose campus has about 900 more students than it did last year. "It is a rate that we need to slow down a bit. So, we are only accepting applications for first-time freshmen through the month of November."

Those interested in applying are encouraged to apply on-line at www.csumentor.edu. Conventional paper applications must be delivered and postmarked no later than Nov. 30. While deadlines have not yet been established for other student levels, such as upper-division transfers, all students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Students can check the status of their application by calling CSULB's 24-hour automated phone system at 562/985-1887. To speak to a student relations specialist, applicants can call 562/985-5471 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Student relations specialists also are available in person at Brotman Hall, Room 101, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with hours extended until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters.
