George Castro, associate dean for the College of Science at San Josť State University, was inducted into the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference Hall of Fame, at a ceremony in El Paso, Texas, recently.
Castro was recognized for his technical contributions to science and for his community service. Among Castro's numerous accomplishments is national recognition from the White House when, last year, he received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
Castro came to SJSU in 1995 after a 27-year career with IBM Research as part of a partnership with IBM, the California Department of Education and the California State University system. While at SJSU, he has developed a major partnership between the university and the East Side Union High School District to increase the number of students who complete math and science prep courses.
The mission of the HENAAC Hall of Fame is to recognize the outstanding achievements of Hispanics in science, engineering and technology, and to help create a more diverse and professional technical workforce.
