Two professors at San Josť State University have been awarded Fulbright grants that will take them on scholarly pursuits at universities in Canada and Mexico.
They are Herman Boschken, professor of organization and management in the College of Business, and Michael Foster, professor of marine sciences at the Moss Landing (Calif.) Marine Laboratories, a research facility operated by SJSU.
Boschken was named to a Fulbright Distinguished European/Canadian Chair at the University of New Brunswick, Canada. He will begin his four-month, collaborative scholarship program there in January. The European/Canadian chair program recognizes scholars who have distinguished themselves internationally by scholarly achievements. A member of the SJSU faculty since 1982, Boschken was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Sweden in 1983.
Foster received a Fulbright Alumni Initiatives Award. During the 2000-01 school year, he will develop a joint marine ecology field course for students at SJSU and the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California Sur, La Paz, Mexico. The new Fulbright program offers grants to former U.S. Fulbright scholars to support projects that continue work and partnerships initiated while they were abroad. Foster was a Fulbright Scholar at the La Paz university during 1994-95. He has been on the SJSU faculty since 1976.
