The Office of International programs at California State University, Sacramento has been selected to participate in the "Japan-U.S. Initiative", a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Colleges and Universities and the U.S. Department of Education. Selected from more than 100 American colleges and universities to participate, CSUS will enter into a partnership withYokohama National University of Japan. The partnership will encourage American students to study in Japan. Approximately 40,000 Japanese undergraduates enroll in U.S. colleges and universities each year, while fewer than 1,500 American undergraduates enroll in Japanese institutions. One of the barriers for American students is the lack of language proficiency.
This new partnership between CSUS and Yokohama National University (YNU) will enable CSUS students to enroll at YNU for a semester or a year to study Japanese language and culture. In addition, students may be eligible to receive stipends from the Association for International Education in Japan. This program has broad appeal for students in a variety of liberal arts majors, plus those in engineering, business, education and other professional fields.
