The national magazine Black Issues in Higher Education once again has shown that California State University campuses are among the nation's best in graduating students of color.

The report on minority degrees awarded in 1997/98 indicated that eight of the nation's top 20 universities in number of baccalaureate degrees awarded to minorities are CSU institutions, including San Jose State at number six, CSU Fullerton at number nine, and San Diego State at 10. Altogether, 12 of the 22 CSU campuses are in the nation's top 40 in number of minority bachelor's degrees granted. Others in the top 40 are: Cal State L.A., 11; San Francisco State, 13; CSU Long Beach, 14; Cal Poly Pomona, 17; CSU Northridge, 18; CSU Sacramento, 33; CSU Dominguez Hills, 35; Fresno State, 39; and CSU Hayward, 40.

CSU campuses also rank highly in the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to Asian Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans:

• Nine of the top 25 in Asian American bachelor's degrees are CSU campuses, including San Jose State at six, San Francisco State at eight, and Cal Poly Pomona and CSU Fullerton, tied at 10.
  
  
• Thirteen of the top 40 in Hispanic degrees are CSU campuses, including San Diego State at six, Cal State L.A. at seven, and CSU Fullerton at nine.
  
  
• Nine of the nation's top 50 universities granting Native American degrees are CSU campuses, including Sacramento at 15.

The CSU is one of the most diverse institutions in the nation, with a minority population of 53 percent, more than twice the national average.

Black Issues also ranked institutions by major and minority group. Some of the CSU highlights are:

• Seven of the top 10 in business management degrees to Asian Americans, including Fullerton at one, San Francisco at two, San Jose at four and Pomona at five.
  
  
• Fourteen of the top 50 in business management degrees to Hispanics are CSU campuses, including San Diego, Pomona and Fullerton at six through eight, respectively.
  
  
• Three of the top 10 in communications degrees to Native Americans, including Sacramento and Fullerton at two and four, respectively.
  
  
• Two of the top five in communications degrees to Asian Americans, including Fullerton at two and San Jose at four.
  
  
• Thirteen of the top 50 in communications degrees to Hispanics, including Fullerton at two and Northridge at seven.
  
  
• Seven of the top 25 in computers and information systems degrees to Asian Americans, including Los Angeles at two and San Jose at four.
  
  
• Eight of the top 10 in education degrees to Asian Americans, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Fullerton and Sacramento at two through five, respectively.
  
• Two of the top ten in education degrees to Hispanics, including Los Angeles at two and Fullerton at eight.
  
  
• Three of the top ten in English degrees to Hispanics, including Long Beach at four and San Diego and Northridge tied at eight.
  
  
• Eight of the top 20 in health professions degrees to Asian Americans, including number one San Jose and Long Beach and San Francisco at seven and nine, respectively.
  
  
• Thirteen of the top 50 in health professions degrees to Hispanics, including Fresno at 11.
  
  
• Five of the top 20 in math degrees to Hispanics, including San Diego at seven.
  
  
• Four of the top ten in psychology degrees to Hispanics, including San Diego at two, Northridge at six, and Long Beach and L.A. tied at nine.
