James F. Burke, dean of the Collins School of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona, has been selected to serve as secretary/treasurer of The National Tourism Foundation (NTF) Board of Trustees.
"I am pleased to be able to contribute to the future of the travel and tourism industry by supporting outstanding students with scholarships and grants," said Burke, who was sworn in during the Foundation's recent board meeting held in Honolulu.
The board, which includes four officers and 10 trustees, establishes the strategies and the policies that guide the NTF. The Foundation supports curriculum development in travel and tourism education programs, cultivates the study of packaged tour management and related travel curricula, promotes the professional career opportunities provided by travel and tourism, and enhances the basic education criteria that will increase the worth of tourism at all levels. Its Education Advisory Council, consisting of 14 educators from across North America, monitors NTF's educational activities and makes recommendations to improve these programs.
Burke joins chairman John Hunt of Hunt & Hunt and vice chairwoman Rene Campbell of Columbus (Indiana) Area Visitor Center.
