Pepsi becomes official beverage sponsor of San Diego State

San Diego State University announced today that it has signed a seven-year agreement with The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. Pepsi now is the official beverage sponsor of the university.

"This campus-wide partnership will benefit San Diego State University in numerous ways," said Scott Burns, associate vice president of enterprise operations for SDSU. "The Pepsi Bottling Group will be a major financial sponsor of a variety of programs supporting the campus community, including student scholarships and Aztec Athletics."

The Pepsi agreement includes supplying fountain beverages, along with many canned and bottled drinks sold through campus restaurants, convenience stores, vending machines and catering operations. The transition to Pepsi products will take place over the next couple of weeks.

"San Diego State is a dynamic institution with hundreds of thousands of alumni and sports fans in the San Diego region," said Kent Montgomery, Vice President and General Manager of PBG's San Diego Market Unit. "We are proud of our new partnership with the university. We have a terrific portfolio of products to offer students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus - and we look forward to collaborating on some exciting SDSU specific marketing programs that will provide even more support for SDSU's athletic and academic endeavors."

Steve Becvar, SDSU's senior associate athletic director, said Pepsi will be able to provide a significant increase in promotion for Aztec Athletics.

"Pepsi has tremendous reach in the community and will help us expose many more people to Aztec Athletics," Becvar said. "This fall, more than 2.6 million Diet Pepsi cans with the Aztecs football schedule will be distributed in San Diego and adjacent markets."

The entire lineup of Pepsi products will be offered, including but not limited to: Pepsi-Cola, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Mountain Dew, as well as Aquafina bottled water, Dole 100% juices, Tropicana juice drinks, Lipton Iced Teas, Gatorade, Starbucks Frappuccino, Starbucks Doubleshot and Mountain Dew AMP and MDX. PBG will also offer BooKoo energy drinks.

The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. (www.pbg.com) is the world's largest manufacturer, seller and distributor of Pepsi-Cola beverages with operations in the U.S., Canada, Greece, Mexico, Russia, Spain and Turkey.
