Partnership Established With University In China

California State University, Stanislaus President Marvalene Hughes and President Liu Jinan of the Communications University of China signed an agreement on April 14 that commits the two institutions to development of a faculty and student exchange.

Four people from Communications University, located in Beijing, China, spent the day at CSU Stanislaus to meet with President Hughes and University administrators, faculty, and staff.

The two universities are planning short-term faculty exchanges in music, art, and communication studies. Faculty will give seminars on the partner campus to broaden the perspectives of a variety of courses. Faculty also will exchange gallery exhibitions and musical performances. Students will have the opportunity to conduct short-term research and creative activity projects through the agreement.

The purpose of the exchanges, which are expected to begin this fall, is to allow California students to learn more about China and for the Chinese students to learn more about the United States.

"It is expected that fruitful professional ties will develop over time," said Linda Bunney-Sarhad, Director of Global Affairs.
