Cal Poly Biotech QL+ Center and Founding Alum Are Topic of Filming

San Luis Obispo, Jan. 13 - A camera crew with the United Services Automobile Association (USAA) was on campus filming engineering alum Jon Monett (IE ’64) at Cal Poly. The project was a segment for the organization’s annual report, focusing on the new QL+ Center located on the Cal Poly campus. The biotech center does research and development of prostheses for men and women who have been injured in battle -- from weapons, explosives or fire.

2 Houses, 9 days: Chico State Students Volunteer for Ambitious Project
Chico, Jan. 14 - After volunteering to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina and the 2008 Concow Fire, students from California State University, Chico’s College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management have a more ambitious community service project for 2010: build two homes in just nine days for victims of domestic violence. The 2010 CSU, Chico Annual Winter Community Service Project involves more than 200 volunteers, 43 industry suppliers, subcontractors and sponsors and financial support from the Chico Redevelopment Agency.
SDSU Study: High-strung and Stressed Students More Common
San Diego, Jan. 11 - A new study by San Diego State University finds that today’s high school and college students are more high-strung and stressed out than ever before. The research, published in Clinical Psychology Review, finds that young people today report more anxiety and mental health problems than generations past.
CSUEB Launches Online Arts Management Certificate
Hayward, Jan. 5 - The not-for-profit arts field is facing an urgent need for trained leaders with management skills, as those who entered the industry in the 1970s and 80s are retiring. As a result, arts organizations and related boards of directors and foundations are seeking trained leaders. A new online arts management career development certificate program devoted to professional development for emerging arts organization leaders has been designed by and offered at Cal State East Bay.
SJSU 4th Largest Employer in Silicon Valley
San Jose, Jan. 5 - San José State University is the fourth largest Silicon Valley employer headquartered in San José, according to the Friday, January 1, issue of the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. With 4,693 full-time equivalent employees, San José State ranks behind just three others (Cisco Systems, Santa Clara County and the city of San José).
