David Hellman
Quintessential bibliophile
David Hellman, Collection Development Coordinator at San Francisco State University, collaborates with faculty to acquire collections relevant to the research and instructional needs of the campus. He manages a collections budget exceeding $3 million. David is becoming known for his interests in the future of the book. His work in this area garnered him an invitation to present at the 2003 Book Conference in Cairns, Australia, where he gave a talk on a librarian's perspective on book publishing and the future of the book.
David notes his five-year service on the American Library Association's (ALA) Notable Books Council as a crowning achievement for his career. He is currently a member of the Commonwealth Club's California Book Award jury. David has been a regular reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle Book Review since 2003 and also contributes reviews to Library Journal and Booklist.
