CSU Library Futures Summit

The Council of Library Directors held a two-day "futures summit" in June as an opportunity for library deans and systemwide administrators to join with national library leaders to assess the impact on academic libraries of societal trends, changes in higher education, emerging technologies, and organizational needs. Invited participants were Lorcan Dempsey, Vice President and Chief Strategist at OCLC; Deanna Marcum, Associate Librarian for Library Services at the Library of Congress; David Lewis, Dean of Libraries, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis; and CSU Executive Vice Chancellor Richard West.

Each of the four invitees presented their thoughts on a particular area of change impacting libraries and posed challenging questions for follow-up discussion. The results of the discussions will serve as a foundation for the next iteration of the systemwide library strategic plan set to get underway in the coming year. Preparation of a wiki detailing the presentations, discussions, and findings of the summit is underway and will be made available soon to the broader CSU community.
