Information and Communication Technology Literacy

The newly developed and innovative scenario- and web-based test to assess students’ skills in information and communication technology (ICT) literacy is now available in its final form for use by CSU campuses. The assessment, developed by ETS in partnership with the CSU and other universities, contains interactive and realistic simulations of information resources and applications such as the Web, article databases, and spreadsheeting and word processing to track and evaluate how students actually go about solving problems with information technology. It will provide group- and individual-level diagnostic information for the key ICT proficiencies needed for success in higher education and beyond in the work environment. It encompasses both the technical skills and cognitive information competence abilities needed to effectively access, evaluate and use information from a wide range of resources.

A "whitepaper" http://www.calstate.edu/ls/ICTwhitepaperfinal.pdf describing the ICT assessment initiative can be downloaded and further information is available at the project's website http://www.ets.org/ictliteracy/
