We are pleased to announce that the California State University has been notified by Caroline O. Boitano, President of The Education Financing Foundation of California that it is has made a grant of $100,000 to CSU for the sole purpose of assisting students affected by the disaster in the Gulf Region. The Education Financing Foundation of California requires the funds to be used to benefit directly the affected students and their financial need as determined by campus offices of financial aid. No portion of these funds may be used for administrative or other expenses of the California State University Chancellor's Office or of the campuses. As of yesterday, 289 students affected by Hurrican Katrina had enrolled on CSU campuses. Some campuses are continuing to admit students, so we expect this number to continue to increase.

Our office will be consulting with your campus financial aid directors and admission directors on the development of an appropriate and equitable awarding policy and allocation process, which will be forwarded to campuses next. While this consultation occurs, I wanted to alert you to this resource that has been so generously provided by the Education Financing Foundation of California.
