Biology Joyce Ono (Fullerton) Host a 1.5-day retreat for biology faculty from 22 CSU campuses to discuss the development of a core lower-division curriculum, share effective instructional strategies, discuss curricular change processes, and consider how departmental personnel policies support learner-centered teaching. Survey department chairs on these issues and share results over the Biology Council website.
Computer Science Tyson Henry (Chico), Hilary Holz (Hayward), & Clarke Steinback (Chico) Host a one-day workshop for computer science faculty from nine CSU campuses to learn about and discuss issues related to student retention and recruitment. Develop and share materials concerning current research, barriers and solutions, non-traditional students, and effective student tracking.
Gerontology Debra Sheets (Northridge) & Rosalie Gilford (Fullerton) Create a consortium of at least twelve CSU campuses to develop a shared online certificate program that satisfies AB2202 mandates for gerontology curricula for all students planning careers that serve senior populations. Host a meeting of relevant faculty and administrators to address bureaucratic barriers, develop inter-institutional agreements, implement the first course in this program in fall 2004, and develop a FIPSE application to secure support for expanding the program.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Queer Studies Eric Rofes (Humboldt) Host a two-day meeting for LGBTQ faculty from at least 10 CSU campuses to discuss revising and expanding curricula and initiating new major, minor, and certificate programs; to share organizational and pedagogical concerns, challenges, and solutions; and to establish a communication system for ongoing collaboration. Compile a resource base of LGBTQ documents, including syllabi and program proposals.
Therapeutic Recreation Laura McLachlin (Chico) Create the first CSU systemwide, online therapeutic recreation course that meets NCTRC accreditation expectations. Faculty from seven CSU campuses will contribute to the development of this WebCT course, and it should enhance the quality of their programs and the productivity of their staff.
