ITL is pleased to provide partial travel support for CSU faculty
attending the Teacher-Scholar Summer Institute. This year, ITL will transfer
funds to the campuses to help defray the cost of lodging and, for faculty
coming from high-cost areas, airfare or other transportation costs in
excess of $200. To be assured of travel support, participants should register
by the April 20 deadline.
All participants will be responsible for making and guaranteeing their
room reservations at one of the inns or motels in San Luis Obispo (see
our SLO lodging list), for making their
own travel arrangements, and for following campus procedures for securing
permission to travel on state business and for filing travel claim forms
after the institute. Participants will file all travel claims on their
own campus, not with ITL.
How much of the lodging costs will ITL reimburse?
ITL will provide a lodging subsidy of $80 per night. To calculate
the maximum number of nights that you will be eligible for the lodging
subsidy, count the number of days you are in workshops and add one.
For example, those enrolled in workshops over three days will be eligible
for a maximum of four nights' lodging.
At the time of this posting, ITL is still working to secure overflow
lodging at one of the campus dorms. However, because there may be more
participants than rooms available, we would like to encourage faculty
to share a room. ITL appreciates participants' cooperation and will
assist those who want to find a roommate, as indicated on the registration
form.
What about airfare and other transportation expenses?
ITL will reimburse faculty for transportation costs (mileage, airfare,
airport parking, train fare) when those costs exceed $200 and travelers
are using lowest fares and traveling from their home or campus base.
ITL support will be for those expenses over and above $200. If you know
that your transportation costs will exceed $200, please send a supplemental
travel request to ITL Administrative Assistant, Dawn Wheeler, at
dwheeler@calstate.edu. In that request, provide details of your expected
expenditures for transportation. ITL will not reimburse for meals en
route, incidentals, registration fees, and other travel expenses.
Are lecturers entitled to this travel support?
Yes, faculty in lecturer (temporary) or part-time appointments may
receive travel support from ITL provided they teach courses in the CSU
on a regular basis (every quarter or semester) and are eligible for
travel support from the campus otherwise. Graduate teaching assistants
and lecturers who teach only occasionally are not eligible for travel
support from ITL but may register for a TSSI workshop on a space-available
basis.
Will my campus cover expenses that ITL doesn't?
Many campuses have funds to reimburse other Teacher-Scholar Summer
Institute travel expenses (registration fees, meals en route, incidentals,
the first $200 in transportation costs, etc.). Please contact your campus
representative to the CSU Faculty Development
Council about support available on campus. Also, ask your department
chair and dean about additional travel funds available for the 2000-2001
fiscal year.
Who can answer my questions about travel support?
Please contact ITL Administrative Assistant Dawn Wheeler if you have
questions about any of these policies and procedures. She can be reached
at (562) 951-4736 or by email dwheeler@calstate.edu.
How do I register for TSSI 2001? Is there a deadline?
Registration and Fees Due April 20
Please go to the registration page
and follow instructions there to request workshop reservations and pay
the registration fee. You will be able to indicate your first and second
workshop choices for both Session A and Session B. If you are unable
to register online, please call (562-951-4736) or email ITL (dwheeler@calstate.edu)
for assistance.
Registration includes payment of a fee (to help defray costs of workshop
materials, lunches, dinners, and refreshments). Your workshop reservation
request will not be processed until ITL has received payment of the
fee. The fee is $65 for Sessions A and B combined; $45 for Session A
alone (a two-day workshop); or $30 for Session B alone (a one-day workshop).
You may pay your fee by credit card (via FAX or phone to ITL) or by
check. Please follow instructions on the fee payment form that appears
online immediately after you submit your workshop reservation request.
Faculty who have registered and paid fees will be assigned to workshops
immediately after the registration deadline, Friday, April 20,
and sent written confirmation of their registration shortly thereafter.
ITL will fill workshops on a first-come, first served basis, giving
priority to registrants attending both Sessions A and B and to those
who have not attended a Teacher-Scholar Summer Institute in the past
three years. Also ITL will distribute workshop spaces among registrants
from as many campuses as possible. If there are workshop spaces available
after the April 20 deadline, they will be filled on a first-come, first-served
basis.
If ITL is unable to accommodate your workshop reservation requests,
your registration fee will be refunded in full. For those confirmed
in workshops but unable to attend TSSI, the registration fee is refundable
provided a refund request is made in writing and postmarked by June
1, 2001.
