Information For Your Visit

| FLYING TO LONG BEACH |
|---|
|
The airport nearest to the hotel and the Chancellor's Office is the
Long Beach Airport. Their website provides
links to the carriers that serve the airport. Jet Blue's Oakland-Long Beach flight is a bargain, and the Long Beach airport is much easier to navigage than LAX. There is also LAX, which is about 22 miles from the Chancellor's Office. SuperShuttle discount coupons are available for $1.00 off each way. |
| DRIVING TO LONG BEACH |
|
To the Office of the Chancellor: Driving instructions and parking information can be downloaded from the CSU website at http://www.calstate.edu/PA/info/COmap.pdf (PDF). Parking is limited at the Chancellor's Office, so please consider leaving your car at the hotel. The walk from the West Coast Long Beach Hotel to the Chancellor's Office is pleasant! Parking for those with disabilities is available; please contact Mary Allen (mallen@calstate.edu) or Dawn Wheeler (dwheeler@calstate.edu) to make arrangements. If you are commuting to the TSSI, ITL will pay for your daily parking in the garage adjacent to the Chancellor's Office. To the Coast Hotel(formerly known as the West Coast Long Beach Hotel): Please see below. |
| LODGING |
ITL has arranged to have blocks of rooms at the
Coast Long Beach Hotel set aside for conference participants. Participants must make their own reservations; please request CSU Teacher-Scholar Summer Institute rates. Rates are guaranteed until June 2, 2003.

| LOCAL TRANSPORTATION |
|
Downtown Long Beach is easy to explore on foot and by using the Passport bus. If you are staying at the hotel, you will enjoy the scenic walk over the bridge to get from the hotel to the Chancellor's Office. A wide pedestrian lane is on the east side of the bridge, and it is much safer than the narrow sidewalk on the west side of the bridge. (When you're leaving the hotel, the east side of the bridge is on the right. When you're returning to the hotel, the east side of the bridge is on the left.) Watch for signs or guides along the path. Depending on your walking speed and how long you pause to admire the view, the walk should be a pleasant 20 to 30 minutes. You can also either walk or take the Passport bus from the Chancellor's Office to downtown Long Beach. To walk takes about 20 minutes; the Passport is a run-about-bus that travels from Golden Shore to Belmont Shore and back. The Passport is free between Golden Shore and downtown; from downtown Long Beach to Belmont Shore will cost 90 cents. |
