Canada: Overview

The Program in Québec

Québec is Canada's largest and oldest province. Located in the eastern part of the country, it is bordered on the south by Maine, Vermont, and New York. Eight out of 10 Québecois are descendants of French colonists who founded New France in the 1600s. Québec's community maintained its culture, religion, and native tongue even after France lost its North American empire to the British. Today, the Anglophone (English-speaking) and Francophone (French-speaking) cultures continue to coexist in Québec.

Students attending Concordia must take at least one French language course each term in addition to courses in their major field.
