Match for California Sea Grant 2024 Graduate Research Fellowships for CSU Students
CASG pre-proposal deadline:  March 1, 2023, 5:00PM PT
CASG full proposal deadline:  June 21, 2023, 5:00PM PT
Only applicants who have submitted a pre-proposal may submit a full proposal.

California Sea Grant (CASG) is offering Graduate Research Fellowships beginning in 2024. Contingent upon receipt of federal funding, the fellowships are available for one or two years for full-time master's and Ph.D. students who are engaged in coastal and marine research relevant to California at any California academic institution. Each fellowship provides an award of up to $45,000 per year to support student academic expenses and professional development opportunities during the fellowship period, focused on science communication, science-to-management processes, outreach, and other California and National Sea Grant mission priorities. CASG anticipates funding nine (9) fellowships.

CASG’s Request for Proposals (RFP) focuses on proposals that respond to and target objectives specific to the Resilient Communities and Economies (RCE) and Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture (SFA) focus areas of their strategic plan (please note that at this time, CASG will only consider SFA projects related to fisheries for this funding opportunity). The start date for the fellowships is February 1, 2024.

Applicants are required to provide 25% in matching funds from non-federal sources. To facilitate CSU applications, COAST will commit up to $10,000* per CSU applicant (or 25% of the required match, whichever is smaller).  While the COAST contribution will likely not provide all of your required match, we hope this support will enable more students to apply. Additional match may be secured through the commitment of the research mentor’s time, campus provision of facilities and/or equipment, or student volunteer time. Please note, these are examples and the actual types of match you may use are dependent on your situation and campus.
