The team determined the following would need to occur to effect
changes. Where these have begun, a statement follows each indicating
the course of action undertaken.
The Vice Provost prepared and delivered a summary report of the
conference to the Provost and his Council of Academic Deans.
The Associate Dean reported the conference summary to the Dean
of the College of Communication and Education.
The MS faculty member from the Department of Education shared
his perceptions with the chair of the Department of Education.
The Director of the Education Services Center shared a report
with the chair of the Department of Professional Studies in Education.
The Coordinator of the Liberal Studies Program has been in communication
with many of his program faculty.
The School of Education Executive Committee has begun to prepare
a draft of an Education Minor which might be targeted at several
populations (academic major-Multiple Subject, Single Subject,
other "service" professional fields, other career fields).
Because the Dean of the College was an active and important member
of both the 1422 Commission and the Chancellor's Task Force, the
Administration at this campus is well advised of the changes taking
place in the field of Teacher Education both at the Legislative
level and with the CSU System.
The whole campus has, as part of its Strategic Plan, identified
candidate and program assessment as a top priority.
The 1998-99 Review of Graduate Programs in Education will reflect
and focus on programmatic self-assessment and candidate assessment.
The School of Education Reading faculty has been active in the
redesign of preparation programs and courses in anticipation of
the RICA.
The School of Education has been preparing its Accreditation
response to the Commission in light of all the factors indicated
above while remaining aware of the critical need for competent
teachers throughout the State.
