Used to appoint an employee to an additional position where the intent is that employment be regular and continuous. Includes permanent, probationary and tenure track appointees, in addition to ’At Will’ appointments such as management (MPP) and Executive (M98) appointees serving at the pleasure of the campus President, the Chancellor or the Trustees. NOTE: The term ’permanent appointee’ confers no particular status to the employee.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) requires employers to verify employment eligibility of all employees hired on or after November 7, 1986 via completion of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) I-9 form. The Act provides comprehensive lists of acceptable documents for employment eligibility. An individual must present a document or documents that establish identity and employment eligibility, however, the choice of documents from those lists is the employee’s alone. The campus may not require the employee to present additional or different documents than the ones chosen by the employee from those lists. If an employee does not have a Social Security card, enter ’SS5 Sent’ in Item 105 and send the PPT to CSU Audits for processing. Refer to Item 105 and Item 825, Transaction 825, and Noncitizen Appointments for additional information.
Employees on J-Visa cannot be hired permanently. For more information, refer to Appointments.
Excluded (E99) classes 8346, 8347 (Police Officer Cadet) may not be permanently appointed per HR Letter 2001-19.
Excluded (E99) classes 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 (Early Childhood Teacher series) cannot be hired permanently. For more information, refer to HR 2002-08.
If an employee is rescinding his/her retirement, refer to Transaction A56, Prior Employee, for more information.
Item 450, Prior State Service, must be code ’4’ to establish a new position sequence.
Item 125, Disability Status, is normally optional on an additional position. Note however, that since this item is not required on a student assistant position, a Special Payment Transaction (A54) or positions separated prior to implementation of Item 125 in July 1990, Item 125 is required on the additional position if the existing position is descriptive of one of the aforementioned situations (or categories).
Item 714, Recruitment Location, must be entered for all new full-time faculty.

When attempting to add an additional position and you receive this message, verify PSN screen. If the employee is out of service with a code ’C’ or ’P’, or if the code is ’S’ and the position is not at your campus, contact your CSU Audit Representative.
9260-01 INSTITUTION CODE AND DATE REQUIRED WHEN LEVEL = A, B, D, M OR P.
If Item 712, Education Level, equals A, B, D, M or P, then both Degree Institution and Degree Level must be present.
