Item 712 - Degree Information - Institution/Level/Date

This data element consists of three components: Institution, Level and Year, that describe the employee's educational background.

INSTITUTION - This 6-digit code is to be completed only when the level code is A, B, M, P, or D. The Federal Interagency Committee of Education (FICE) code indicates the institution of higher learning at which the employee earned his highest degree. FICE - codes for institutions in the U.S. are listed in the Education Directory. For U.S. institutions that are not listed in the Education Directory, use Code 888888. For foreign institutions, use Code 999999.

LEVEL - This 1-digit code indicates the level of education or highest certificate.

YEAR - This 2-digit entry indicates the year the employee received his highest degree from an institution of higher learning.

System Audits:	9260-01 INSTITUTION CODE AND DATE REQUIRED WHEN LEVEL = A, B, D, M OR P. If EDUCATION LEVEL equals A, B, D, M or P, then both DEGREE INSTITUTION and DEGREE LEVEL must be present. 9260-02 EDUCATION LEVEL MUST BE ENTERED. Degree level must be present on all records except Transaction A54.
Audit Instructions:	For employees with multiple positions, campuses should monitor for consistency and take action as necessary. Do not enter '0' as the Institution or Year when Level is the only required entry.
