Participant Responsibilities
It is your responsibility to keep the program informed of your current address. If you fail to keep the program informed, or do not respond to mailings, you may go into repayment without realizing it. This may have negative consequences for your credit and may result in late charges and additional interest accruing on your account. If you have recently moved, please contact us. You should also contact us when (1) you have completed your degree and (2) if you have accepted an offer of employment in a CSU instructional faculty position.

Program Timeline
August

Each year, to begin a new funding cycle, the Program emails various forms to be completed by the participants. When the completed forms are received by the Chancellor's Office, loan documents are prepared and emailed to the participant for signature. Signed loan documents are to be mailed to the Chancellor's Office. Upon receipt of all signed loan documents, the funding process is implemented for the fall term.

Participants must submit a Verification of Enrollment Form for each academic term (quarter/semester) in which they request funds. This form must be certified by the Registrar at the participant’s university, so the form should be completed after the participant has enrolled for the academic term.

Participants who are not requesting funds, or who have borrowed the full $30,000, are still required to complete and return the Graduate Student Status Form to continue their student deferment. Participants who do not return the requested forms will enter repayment.

September Funding is typically available and will be disbursed to participants according to when the completed paperwork/forms are received.

Note: Funds for the program are contingent on passage of the state budget by the California State Legislature. Delays in the process can preclude us from releasing funds in a timely manner.

December/
January
As indicated above, the Verification of Enrollment Form is submitted for the spring or winter term according to participant's academic calendar.

March/
April
Verification of Enrollment Forms are submitted for spring term for quarter campuses.

Note: The Verification of Enrollment Form is to be completed by the university registrar. This form must be completed and submitted when requesting funding. If the doctoral institution provides participant with an institutional verification, participant must still complete the top portion of Verification of Enrollment Form and return to our office. Verification of Enrollment Forms can be mailed separately (if institution is mailing verification.)
