Mr. Don B. Huntley is a Renaissance man—a farmer, a businessman, and an art and wine collector. A 1960 graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a degree in animal husbandry, he went on to become one of the San Joaquin Valley’s most successful entrepreneurs.
A background in biology and chemistry led Mr. Huntley to animal health sales in the San Joaquin Valley. He entered the permanent tree crops industry in 1966 through a partnership. Later, he acquired a real estate license and transitioned into a career specializing in the sale of agricultural and recreational land. Mr. Huntley now raises pistachios on 480 acres, with the very best nuts sold under Huntley Moore Farms through gourmet food markets such as Williams-Sonoma and the Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch. Cherries are another passion, which he raises on another 140 acres.
For close to 50 years, Mr. Huntley has remained a true friend to Cal Poly Pomona. He has an unquestioned commitment and passion for the university and the College of Agriculture. A charter member of the President’s National Development Council, he has served on the college’s Advisory Board and the External Land Review Committee.
A proud alumnus, Mr. Huntley has been a supporter of numerous programs on campus over the years including the Colleges of Agriculture, Environmental Design, and Science.
He has contributed significant resources to Cal Poly Pomona, and has established the Huntley Western Art Collection at the university, a significant collection of fine art.
Mr. Huntley is the ultimate alumnus, friend and donor. He understands and appreciates the strengths and challenges of the university and stands ready to assist with an unwavering commitment and sense of pride in his alma mater.
In recognition of these and his many other noteworthy and philanthropic achievements, the California State University Board of Trustees and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona are proud to confer on Don B. Huntley the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
