CSU Northridge, 2005
Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Jackie completed her bachelor's degree in marine science at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California. She then received a Fulbright scholarship to continue her studies. She selected CSU Northridge because of the strong biology program and the faculty expertise in marine biology. Her research interest is the thermal physiology of seaweeds, the topic of her master's thesis. Jackie's field sites included the Hawaiian Islands and the California Channel Islands. Jackie found CSU Northridge to be a very supportive research environment. Jackie notes, "I am so pleased that I found this program-the professors supported me at every stage of my research and have prepared me well for the next step." Jackie is now working on her doctorate in oceanography at the University of Hawaii.
