CSU East Bay
Highlights
Established in the 1970s by University Library founding director Floyd R. Erickson,
University Library Special Collections began with materials from author Henry Hart's
private collection, which included rare and special items dealing with early exploration
and travel, Marco Polo, and the Portuguese poet Camoes. The collection grew over the
years to include San Francisco Bay Area poetry, fine press books, anti-slavery materials,
early imprints, works about earthquakes and volcanoes, the Jensen Family papers, and
other manuscripts and books. The library continues to build the collection with modern
works to support the teaching needs of the Art Department's artists' bookmaking classes.
