How to Apply: General Guidelines
General Guidelines for Completing the Application
Following are general guidelines for completing the application process. Contact the
specific university department for additional requirements.
- Applicants need to submit a California State University Application for Graduate
Admission along with the nonrefundable graduate application fee of $55 online at
CSUMentor. The CSU must receive payment before
your application will be reviewed. The Statement of Purpose portion of the application
should include a description of your long- and short-term career goals, and the ways
in which you believe a graduate degree will help you to achieve them.
- Request official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities listed on your
application. Most campuses require that two copies of EACH official transcript be sent
directly to the graduate studies office. Check with the campus for specific requirements.
- Submit transcripts and test scores to the graduate admissions office at the university.
- Submit supplemental applications and materials to the department. Individual graduate
departments establish admission standards for their programs and have their own requirements.
Letters of recommendation, resumes, or writing samples may be required as well as tests
such as the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Records Examination
(GRE). Contact the individual department programs for requirements.
Note: International graduate students may need to complete additional filing
date and test score requirements.
