The Graduate Experience
California State University, Monterey Bay offers an outstanding array of educational opportunities that reflect its commitment to serving the diverse peoples of California through multilingual, multicultural, and gender-equitable learning. CSU Monterey Bay currently offers six master's programs in addition to a full range of accredited teaching and postbaccalaureate credential programs. Currently, over 150 students are enrolled in graduate programs at the university, and 150 additional students participate in credential programs. CSU Monterey Bay master's programs cover a variety of fields and offer degrees such as Master of Science in Coastal and Watershed Science & Policy, Master of Arts in Education (MAE), Master of Science in Marine Science, Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Instructional Science and Technology (MIST), Master of Science in Management and Information Technology (MSMIT), and Master of Arts in Public Policy (MPP).

Student Success
CSU Monterey Bay's graduate students enjoy many opportunities for professional advancement. For example:

  • CSU Monterey Bay is the only CSU campus to offer an MS degree in Coastal and Watershed Science & Policy.
  • MAE graduates have achieved notable success in teaching and leadership careers in culturally and linguistically diverse schools, community colleges, and nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
  • MPP graduates hold a variety of positions in public policy organizations at the local, state, national, and international levels.
  • MSMIT graduates can be found working in large corporations such as Cisco Systems, Apple, and Lockheed as well as starting their own small- to medium-sized businesses.
  • Graduates from the blended learning-based MIST program are uniquely qualified to enter fields such as e-learning development, corporate training, educational technology, instructional design, and related fields.
  • The MS in Marine Science degree program housed at nearby Moss Landing Marine Laboratories graduates students who work as research scientists, teachers, or technicians, with approximately one-third of graduating students continuing on to PhD programs.

Monterey Bay Campus
The CSU Monterey Bay campus is located on 1,365 acres, just minutes from beautiful Monterey Bay. The university opened in 1994 and is located on the former Fort Ord military base. As a successful example of civilian use of former military installments, the CSU Monterey Bay campus is truly a model of transition and innovation. It is the ideal location to experience the diverse peoples, cultures, and landscape of the California Central Coast. Affordable on-campus housing is available to full-time residential graduate students and their families.
