 CSU Support Budget for 2010-2011

  • The CSU Board of Trustees will hear a preliminary plan for the 2010-2011 CSU Budget that will be submitted to the Board for approval in November. Under this plan, the CSU would seek the restoration of one-time cuts that were imposed by the state in 2009-10 -- a $255 million line-item veto that was described by the Governor as a one-time cut and a $50 million cut by the Legislature adopted in the original budget act of February 2009. The budget proposal builds upon this restoration of funds and includes revenue assumptions based on the Higher Education Compact -- a long-term agreement between the Governor and the public university systems.
  • The budget plan includes $94 million in state funding to cover an estimated amount of fee revenue that would be produced by a 10 percent student fee increase. Overall, the plan calls for the CSU to request a State General Fund increase of $882 million above the current $2.33 billion budget.  This funding increase would enable the CSU to begin to reverse the damage caused by recent state budget cuts, including restoring courses and services to students and providing compensation increases to faculty and staff.

arrow CSU Honors Students Interned during WWII

  • Trustees will vote on granting honorary degrees to former students forced from their academic studies due to the internment of people of Japanese ancestry during World War II.

  • All CSU students whose studies were interrupted due to the internment may be eligible for the honorary degrees. Surviving family members may receive the honorary degree in recognition of a deceased student.  Assemblymember Warren Furutani, author of legislation honoring California college students affected by the internment, will give a special presentation to the board.

CSU Names 2009-10 Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award Recipients

  • The CSU has selected 23 students to receive the 2009/10 William R. Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement. The winners, one from each campus in the system, will be honored by the Trustees on Sept. 22.

  • The award provides $3,000 scholarships to students who have demonstrated financial need, experienced personal hardships and have attributes of merit including superior academic performance, exemplary community service, and significant personal achievements.

  • Among the 2009/10 Hearst/ Trustees’ award winners, four students have been chosen for additional distinction. There are two Trustee Ali C. Razi Scholarships for $10,000. There are also two Trustee Murray L. Galinson Scholarships for $6,000.

Adoption of Identity Theft Prevention Plan

  • Trustees will vote to adopt a CSU Identity Theft Prevention Implementation Plan to comply with the Red Flags Rule of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Red Flags are events that should alert an organization of potential risk of identity theft. The CSU plan would provide for the identification, detection, and response to patterns, practices or specific activities that could indicate identity theft. The program will be managed by the offices of Information Technology Services (ITS) at the Chancellor's Office and campuses.

 Title 5 Amendment: Education

  • The CSU University and Faculty Personnel Committee will hear three annual reports related to compensation for vice presidents, executive relocation, and transition.

  • The 2009 compensation for vice presidents report includes 19 people. Of these, 14 reflect appointments to vacant positions. No vice presidents serving in the same capacity with same job responsibilities received salary increases.
