Asja D. Hall
California State University, Dominguez Hills

Growing up in a poor single-parent household in Compton, Asja Hall often had to study by candlelight and do without dinner. At 16, her situation became more challenging when she had a child.

However, Asja didnít give up on education. She completed her high school diploma, but then struggled while pursuing vocational training in computer software. Later, after regaining her confidence, she returned to Cerritos College, and developed an interest in psychology and mental health. She ultimately transferred to California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she earned a bachelorís degree in human services and public administration.

Asja is currently working on a masterís degree in social work at CSU Dominguez Hills. She is a work-study student on campus, a Graduate Equity Fellowship recipient, and a volunteer at Assemblywoman Holly Mitchellís office. After graduation, Asja plans to advocate for mental health practitioners to serve seniors; she is concerned about the lack of resources available for those like her grandmother who have Alzheimerís.
