Meet the 2010 Awardees
CSU 50th Anniversary Scholar
Sherry G. Hill began her college education after her marriage of 27 years ended in divorce. As a displaced homemaker, she experienced a period of homelessness, living out of her car in order to attend college. Sherry also has had to overcome several health issues over the years as well as financial hardship due to her medical needs. Despite these challenges, she is currently a senior majoring in communication studies.
To encourage other students to continue their education, Sherry occasionally shares her story by speaking to classes at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton as well as CSU Stanislaus. She also tutors in the writing lab at CSU Stanislaus and donates her time to other students at Delta College and CSU Stanislaus. Sherry also homeschooled her five children from K-12th grade while encouraging them in their post-secondary education.
Sherry’s children have encouraged her to teach college. She plans on obtaining her PhD and teaching at the university level.
