Katherrine Healey
Sacramento State

As the primary caregiver of a mother with deteriorating health, Katherrine Healey was unsure how she would manage her academic goals and her family responsibilities. Her graduation goal was within reach, but hospital visits and family care became a priority. Now a senior at CSU Sacramento, Katie manages to keep a 4.00 GPA while double majoring in history and deaf studies/American sign language and earning academic honors from the history department, Alumni Association and Faculty Senate.

Katie is serving as editor-in-chief of the history departmentís journal and president of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. She also works on campus as an instructional assistant and tutor/reader for the Services to Students with Disabilities Center. Additionally, she is an active volunteer at the California State Library and the California Museum for History, Women and the Arts.

Katie plans to pursue a PhD in history, focusing on how developments in science, medicine and technology have impacted the deaf community.
