Brian K. Smith
CSU Long Beach

Brian K. Smith always dreamed of living on campus, but never thought that he would actually be using campus music rooms as impromptu shelters when he lost his financial aid and student loans because of the limit on unit accumulation. As a result of not having financial support, Brian became homeless and resided in empty rooms on campus determined to be the first male in his family to get a college degree. Brian is concurrently working on a BA in Spanish translation and a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance.

Transferring from Los Angeles City College summa cum laude and from Los Angeles Valley College cum laude, Brian has maintained a 3.65 GPA at CSU Long Beach, while taking 18 to 20 units every semester. He volunteers at Destiny House Ministries in Long Beach as a Spanish interpreter. Brian also helps other students with planning for their recitals as well as tutoring in Spanish, French and Italian.

Brian plans to attend graduate school and then pursue a PhD to expand his translating abilities.
