Nataliya Richmeier
CSU San Bernardino

Formerly a nurse in the Ukraine, Nataliya Richmeier immigrated to the United States in her thirties. Within two years she learned English and managed to obtain her registered nurse license. Since then, she has worked at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage where she is a member of the Wound Care committee, a resource nurse and a participant in the employee education program. She is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and does volunteer work to educate workers in assisted living.

Nataliya's desire to further her education has been a challenge due to her need to have a full-time job to support her family. However, with encouragement from her co-workers, she entered the nursing program at CSU San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus and recently finished her first year.

After graduation, Nataliya plans to pursue her master's degree and apply her knowledge to nursing research and education. She says that, in the U.S., nursing is not just about caring, "it is a profession and people like me can make a difference."
