Meet the 2009 Awardees
Trustee Murray L. Galinson Scholar
Daniel L. Cole was in his thirties when he took an enormous step into higher education. After serving seven years at a state prison as a result of his drug addiction, Daniel became determined to turn his life around and entered college. He now has been clean and sober for eight years and has a new outlook on life.
A senior at CSU Fullerton, Daniel manages to maintain a 3.91 GPA while majoring in human services and also serving as an affiliate of Phi Theta Kappa and the Human Services Student Association. He is currently employed at a drug and alcohol treatment facility doing case management and has participated in numerous internships at area hospitals. Daniel is also co-founding the Substance Abuse Awareness and Prevention Student Association, a club to help educate students about substance abuse.
Daniel plans to take his personal and educational achievements, combine them with his newfound goals, and open up a nonprofit drug and alcohol treatment facility for ex-offenders, the poor and the homeless.
