As an immigrant to the United States, Marycarmen Rosales was encouraged by her family to be the first to graduate from college. The teasing she endured as a child for her heavy accent inspired her to serve others as a speech pathologist. After completing her undergraduate degree at CSU Chico, Marycarmen entered the communication sciences and disorders masterís program, where she is currently completing her first year. Marycarmen has received recognition from the California Human Development Corporation, the Hispanic Association for the Community and Education, and the California State Legislature. Last May, she was honored as the Chico State University Latino Graduation Celebration Speaker. This summer, Marycarmen completed her internship at UC Davis Medical Center. Her future aspirations include working in a childrenís hospital as a speech-language pathologist and educating both young and old to value language differences as an acceptable norm.
