Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement
A first-generation college student who immigrated from the Philippines, Algie Dadacy has made a priority of maintaining a strong academic record, a challenging endeavor given what he has overcome. He was illiterate until the second grade, when he was placed in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Committed to education, Algie attends CSU Channel Islands where he encourages students to make a difference in their communities by promoting health and education. Algie served as president of his community Key Club, one of the largest student service organizations in the world. Equally devoted to family, Algie helps his father with janitorial work three days a week, and also volunteers as an ICU operator at a local hospital. Algie’s long-term goal is to become a high school principal and give back to his community through education, which he credits with teaching him the resilience of the human spirit.
