Constance P. Bravos
Sonoma State University
Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement
An only child raised by her adopted parents in Martinez, California, Constance Bravos faced childhood asthma, financial strife and less than desirable living conditions, including homelessness and living in a shelter for a time. Still, she immersed herself in her studies and persevered in school. As her confidence grew, she realized she could make a difference in the lives of others. Currently, she is a junior at Sonoma State University and maintains a 3.61 GPA as a psychology major. While attending college, she has become a peer mentor, an outreach mentor and a leadership teacher’s assistant—all of which help the freshman class become more comfortable and more aware of college opportunities. She anticipates graduating from Sonoma State in spring 2010 and then plans to complete her studies at UC Berkeley. Her goal is to serve as a psychologist for the juvenile hall in Martinez.
