Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement
During her teenage years, Anukina Ayvaz spent much of her time at the hospital caring for her father who had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The illness also took a great financial toll on her family. Despite these challenges, Anukina is currently a sophomore honors student pursuing a liberal studies degree at CSU Fresno. She maintains a 3.89 cumulative GPA and has earned a place in the Smittcamp Family Honors College. Anukina plans to become a teacher, a dream she has had since childhood. She presently works as a teacher’s assistant as a local elementary school and volunteers at church mentoring junior high students. A gifted pianist, she is a member of various music ensembles at CSU Fresno, and traveled to China earlier this year to perform as part of the pre-Beijing Olympics cultural events. Anukina plans to enhance her education by traveling to Australia in the future as a representative for CSU Fresno at the University Studies Abroad Consortium.
