Delbert Moreno

Delbert Moreno is a graduate student in Chicano/a studies and a social science credential student at CSU Northridge. His difficult childhood was filled with violence, adversity and economic hardship leading him to join a gang, and become involved with self-destructive activity. Delbert credits his high school counselor with encouraging him to stay in school, putting his education into perspective and inspiring him to enroll in community college. Through his resilience and faith, Delbert has emerged as a leader and role model for his community. He has volunteered for the nonprofit agency MEND (Meeting Each Need with Dignity), tutored at-risk youths and been active in student organizations that promote social justice. Delbert's long-term goal is to pursue a doctoral degree in sociology and teach at a university. He has an intense desire to learn, teach, contribute to his field of study (including critical race theory, feminist theory, immigration, social stratification, family and qualitative methods) and, ultimately, give back to his community.
