Recipient, William Randolph CSU Trustees' Awards for Outstanding Achievement
Anthony David Merlonghi joined the Marine Corps right after high school and served four years as an aircraft mechanic, later being called back to active duty after September 11th. After deciding to return to school and being accepted at Cal Maritime, he joined the California National Guard to help to pay for his education. At the beginning of his sophomore year, he was called to duty in Iraq and served 18 months. Returning to Cal Maritime, he was recently elected company chief engineer for his senior class and carries a full load of classes while supporting his wife and her three younger brothers. Anthony has been placed on both the Dean's List and the President's List because of his good grades. He believes that an education is the key to success, and he anticipates graduating in April 2008 with a degree in marine engineer technology. He plans to be a ship's marine engineer.
