Anna Mary Sorensen

Anna Mary Sorensen was born into a religious cult that was encased in domestic violence and social isolation where her only escape was in her home school curricula. As a runaway teen, she entered a dysfunctional marriage that resulted in three children before she was 21. Eventually, Anna became the legal guardian of her children and her future. Her visions of education and social change have played a positive role in her life. With only an eighth grade education, Anna re-entered school with a tremendous thirst for excellence, graduating with honors from Butte Community College and entering California State University, Chico where she has been consistently recognized with honors and awards. She works multiple jobs to give her children what she never had. Anna is involved in her children's school and extracurricular activities. She also actively participates and volunteers within her community through a variety of organizations and events. Anna is looking forward to applying to Ph.D. programs in sociology, emphasizing theory and social policy.
