Recipient, William Randolph CSU Trustees' Awards for Outstanding Achievement
Raised by a single working mother, Anne Huddleston was an average and uninspired student, failing to see in youth the advantages of formal education. At age 44, Anne returned to school to study history and pursue reliable work as a high school history teacher. She was surprised and delighted when academics turned out to be a passion and not simply a means to an end. Now an avid supporter of education, she has proven her academic commitment and talents with this, her ninth scholarship. Currently enrolled at California State University, Northridge, she is pursuing her master's degree in 20th century history with an emphasis on civil rights. Her master's thesis will research white Southern women of the Civil Rights era who opposed segregation and fought on behalf of African American voting rights and the abolition of Jim Crow laws.
