Meet the 2010 Awardees
CSU San Marcos
Having a financially strained but loving upbringing has inspired Rachel England to strive for greatness to help her family. A first-generation student, Rachel has faced economic challenges and an emotionally debilitating divorce, but those obstacles have not deterred from her thirst to pursue a career in science. Currently a senior studying biology at CSU San Marcos, Rachel is also providing intensive support and care for her sister who has Asperger’s Disorder.
Rachel looks forward to traveling to other countries and conducting humanitarian work in the medical field. She considers her volunteer work extremely important and has organized a conference for 90 leaders from local nonprofit organizations, spearheaded a food drive, made monthly trips to help out at an orphanage in Rosarito, Mexico, and taught dance workshops at a women’s shelter.
Rachel’s future goals are to continue to provide care as a physician’s assistant after completing the physician’s assistant master’s program.
